For me, it was a matter of finding a place to SIT to eat lunch. Probably as a result of some choking hazard incident in Iowa, yard duties enforced the no-standing-while-eating rule on the blacktop/ playground. So if you looked around the aluminum benches near the fence and didn't see your fellow type of misfits, what did you do? I don't remember... probably sit as far away from anyone as possible. Always a moment of stomach churning anxiety. I used to hope that the person I was cool with at the moment wouldn't be absent.
